Slices bookshelf

Wall modules that interpret the classic bookshelf, turning it into a three-dimensional decorative element, inspired by the world of adventure and nature based on '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' which recalls sea depth, with a double square module that is represented by a pack of sardines, and a rectangular form, 'Scilla', with a tentacle of the sea monster of Greek mythology. 'The Jungle Book' includes two square modules with giant leaves of Monstera Deliciosa shapes.

Penthouse bookcase


São Paulo penthouse.  The library has floor-to-ceiling wooden shelves suggesting that even the books can serve as future space lining. From this space, there is a spectacular view looking out on the city of São Paulo, framed by a window that interrupts the punctuated sequence of the modules of the bookstand. (h/t Lloyd Alter)

Wells Cathedral chained library tours

Wells Cathedral has one of the very few chained libraries remaining in Britain. Come and see chained books and hear the history of the unique library which dates from 1450. This is a taster tour of around 25 minutes as part of an Open Door event in Wells and offering an insight in small groups of 8. Unfortunately the tour is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Floating bookshelf

"A pair of Vietnamese high school students from the south-central province of Binh Dinh have developed a bookshelf able to float. The model, recently awarded the grand prize at the provincial inventors contest for students, was created by 11th graders Le Quang Hoan and Le Thi Bich Quyen in Tuy Phuoc District... The idea of a floating shelf came to the pair when they were the 10th graders at High School No. 3 Tuy Phuoc. Quyen recalled a deluge that swept through her house and completely submerged the wooden shelf containing her coursebooks and materials."

Stair bookcase


For a private house in Muswell Hill, London.
"We were asked to convert the loft of a private house into a bedroom with a study, which was to include a large bookcase, whilst still keeping to a very tight budget. As the conversion required the creation of a new staircase to the loft, we designed a combined solution that incorporated the staircase and bookcase into a single element."

Transitory bookshelf


This bookshelf responds to a well-known dilemma: books pile up in our homes because we don’t have time to read them. Transitory Bookshelf combines two sloping platforms that help us to manage this problem: the "read!" section reminds us that we should take the time to read; the "read." section helps us to digest recently read books before they blend into our main bookshelf. Made of aluminium composite, this object is manufactured using a single-step digital cutting and engraving process. Once folded and glued, it is perfectly rigid.

Folkform believe, that in this time of increased digitalisation of texts, the book as a physical object will become increasingly desirable and that the reader will prefer a smaller number of well chosen volumes housed in a beautiful piece of furniture to a large number of books in a wall-to-wall bookcase.

Huxley's Ladder

A bookshelf for full utilization of space just under 8'/2.4m common minimum ceiling height with user accessibility. A pair of A-frame ladder structures with crossing rungs support six shelves loaded with books of virtually all sizes and allows a person to step up to reach objects at the top level. The shelves range from deepest at the bottom to narrowest at the top. This encourages distribution of large/heavy books toward the bottom and smaller/lighter books toward the top for stability. The structures are made of solid quartered white oak and the shelves of varnished MDF.
