Beamshelf

Shelf bends on one side when a book is place on that side. The materials used are birchwood for the shelf structure, maple wood for the center resting rod, rubber beneath the base for better grip on the floor or desk. The night lamp has a LED light, the intensity of which can be controlled for user customization.

Barn conversion guest house library

It is a book room with rather more to it than meets the eye. Wanting a place to display her treasured collection, Emma Burns, senior decorator at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, transformed a converted barn at her country home into a sitting-room-cum-guest-cottage full of hidden surprises and witty details.

Meredith library seat

Book trench

Due to the north-east monsoon, waves greatly reach and moisten the oceanic trenches of northern Taipei, Taiwan from March to May, which propagates the growth of the seaweed. The design aims to capture the image of such an unique landscape. The green and parallel trenches were turned into well-proportioned bookshelf, creating multiple spaces to place books of varied sizes.

To be or not to be: Science library in the Pavilion of Knowledge, Lisbon

The intention was to have a sense of 'discovery' when entering in this room, to find the books we have to walk along the space. We deliberately wanted to conceal the books in order to avoid the normal bookshelf image of libraries. The contrast between the black on one side and the white on the other, emphasizes the notion of being or not being. Two words are placed on the white surfaces of the shelves, "library" and "investigate", and encyclopedia definitions, such as "to question", "to know", etc in Portuguese and English.

Spread 10Y magazine rack

Since the summer of 2011, for many months, spread (BTp-Bund 10Y) was the most used and worrying word in Italy. Newspapers and magazines all over the world have spoken daily about Italy and its debt: Too Big to Fail, Too Big to Save. Spread 10Y is a handcrafted wooden magazine rack designed to combine the "news" with the now "(in)famous" graph. It also maps the transition between the Silvio Berlusconi government and that of Mario Monti.

Book partition

More books are printed every year, read and discarded. Even though many are taken to charity shops, they mostly go unsold and the charities have to pay for the books to be sent to landfill. The Paperback Partition is made from this waste, creating an aesthetically pleasing and interesting divide in a room. It provides both good heat insulation, and acoustic insulation. Research showed that most people felt that books as objects were beautiful and they enjoyed their solidness, colour and texture, which the partition shows off.
