Ara bookshelf

A bookshelf designed for the transient reader with few books. The name "ara", is an interjection describing an "aha!" moment - a feeling the user would get when interacting with the shelf.

Contemplate bookshelf

Inspired by one of the existing eco houses in Edmonton—a house that strives to reduce its environmental footprint by reclaiming or reusing materials (wood, metal, etc.), and by conserving energy and maintaining energy efficiency—a wall mounted bookshelf was designed to carry a message that is congruent with the message of the eco house. By its very existence, the eco house raises awareness of the environmental concerns that are closely tied to our daily activities. Similarly, the bookshelf also acts as a sign that warns and reminds the viewer about existing environmental concerns, particularly those associated with our consumption rate as compared to the availability of natural, raw materials. In particular, it serves to raise awareness about our paper consumption rate in comparison to the growth rate of the forests.

1,285 nails: Rocking chair bookcase

This is a project I came up with for my final in Sculpture II. The theme was to create a sight specific sculpture and I decided to build a chair-bookcase for the library of my University in order for students to understand that you can go to the library even when you don't have finals and relax, read a book or just daydream. Because many people got that wrong I need to make clear that I built this chair on my own and that's why the name of this project is dedicated to the number of nails that I screwed with tools (1.285)
