The pallets shelves were rough and dirty. I picked 4 pallets up off a nearby street, made the shelves, and screwed them directly into my drywall with drywall anchors. Each pallet had about 10 screws across the pallet to distribute the weight; each anchor had a 40 lb hanging capacity. The shelves were made by prying off the slats with handy tools, and then sawing out slots so that they they sit snuggly into the three main pallet supports. After that, you can gently screw the "shelves" into the vertical slats that remain! No varnishing; just raw wood and rusty nails. Functions moderately well to showcase your books but not great for daily access to your library!

Smith
Smith is a multi purpose storage unit designed for the overlapping interests of the home and office. Its storage area holds folders, books and other useful items. Attaching itself to tables, Smith helps convert a dining room into a temporary workspace. The design can also be used as a stool or side table, and its tapered proportion allows it to be stacked and placed out of the way. Smith is a flexible hybrid that allows its user to define its end purpose.

Custom made wooden book rack
The rack comes with a set of 10 pins/bookmarks. The pins are detached and can be moved around the back piece to meet your needs at each time. The books rest on a small wooden plate so the pages stay intact. The plates can be moved back and forth on the bottom of the book to control the height of which the book hangs, making it possible to line different sized books up in a straight line. We are book lovers and would never want anything to harm the pages of our books. We've had our book racks hanging for a while now and our books are happy, showing no signs of wear from this storage method.

Objet A
I am looking in every nook and cranny of the room to find hidden spaces. Under the table, beneath the bed, above the wardrobe ... All the space in the room is completely full of odds and ends. There's no other choice. And I start building my objet like the city's tallest building seen from the window in the room.

Paraleelos
An attractive bookshelf with the objective of optimizing materials, process and spaces. Its assembly system was designed to get all the pieces together by using only pressure avoiding the use of fixtures and adhesives. It is formed by two vertical elements that hold the horizontal pieces that are used both to give structure and as shelves. Its design allows the horizontal and vertical measures to be adapted to make it suitable for any space. From the inside rectangles that are cut off the vertical pieces, smaller squares result that may be inserted in the horizontal shelves to have more space for books and different objects.

Custom sinkhold
Don't think Sinkhold is a bookcase because of its shape and contents. Owing to its stainless steel construction from a series of sinks, it holds many things an ordinary bookcase cannot. As such, it is useful in a number of post-bookcase scenarios: terrorist attack, GMO crop blight, even zombie apocalypse.
The shelves are held in place with only spring tension, so they can be slid up or down when empty and brace more firmly against the sides when loaded. Welded from parts of a fun-park carousel, restaurant sinks and a roll-down gate, this post-industrial, post-consumer furniture is easy to lift, even fully loaded, and as such is perfect for itinerant students or that literary bedouin in your life.

The Great Wall
My work, in 3D as well as in painting, originates from the very idea that ultimate knowledge could very well be an erosion instead of an accumulation. The title of one of my pieces is “ All Ideas Look Alike”. Contemporary art seems to have forgotten that there is an exterior to the intellect. I want to examine thinking, not only “What” we think, but “That” we think.
So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS. Fogs and clouds erase everything we know, everything we think we are.

Thoughtful shelf
The Thoughtful Shelves were designed to be a fun and clever way to display your books and collectibles. The design was intended to convey the creation of an idea or conversation and makes for a unique piece of furniture. The bubble shelves create a focal point for the piece and this allows you to show off the ideas and concepts you love most. Also, the Thoughtful Shelves are a perfect compliment to these ideas, because not only do they showcase your items, but it is an intersting design idea itself

Shellf
The title of Ka-Lai's latest product SheLLf is in fact a linguistic and conceptual amalgamation of ‘shell’ and ‘shelf’. Like a shell, it undulates from flatness to depth, creating a dynamic space. Made of separate compartments that are arranged in a gently increasing and decreasing way, it seems as if the shelf is crawling across the wall, literally growing out of the wall, like an animal crawling out of its shell. The cabinet’s outside has a perfectly smooth, glossy black mirror-like textured surface. Inside, a rough reddish, grainy, untreated wood creates a startling contrast. SheLLf is available in three sizes: small (124 x 74cm), medium (217 x 130cm) and large (311 x 223cm).

Books - The Last Chapter?
With the rise of electronic books, is the final chapter about to be written in the long love story between books and their readers? Will the app take the place of the traditional book? Alan Yentob discusses the subject with writers Alan Bennett, Douglas Coupland, Ewan Morrison and Gary Shteyngart, publisher Gail Rebuck, agent Ed Victor and librarian Rachael Morrison. They also smell books, making precise notes about the distinctive aroma of each.
BBC
Does this look good on my bookshelf?
As academics offer their elegies for the printed book, consumers might notice more books being sold outside their traditional habitat. Volumes increasingly accent the window displays of stores like Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters, embellishing the complex décor with a quaintly vintage charm. Leaving behind the drab arena of bookstore window displays, these books for the aesthetic elite aspire to adorn the bookshelves and coffee tables of the cultured bourgeois, the slouching hipster, and the traditionally bibliophobic. What these books lack in content they make up for in beauty. They look trendy and seem to whisper, “Buy it. Who knows? You might even read it.

How to Build a Hidden Door Bookshelf

Book as block, block as type
This series is based on Thomas Fuller’s statement A book that is shut is but a block.
Shelves are used as a typographic grid; books are considered for their shape and colour, rather than content. Building up the letters reminded me very much of typesetting, as every type made of coloured books had to be blocked with white books, just as it is done in letterpress, where large areas of white space are created by the wooden blocks called furniture.
