Rise of public bookshelves in Germany

Public bookshelves are sprouting up across Germany. Everyone is welcome to take a book that piques their interest, or leave one they've already read. The amazing thing is, it works.

But you do have something like that! You have Bookcrossing (google it)! Just find on their website the places where you can pick up the free books. They are in municipalities, coffee shops, etc! I just got 17 books for free 2 days ago at my municipality bookshelf in Lisbon!
